The AFC West is going through an overhaul this offseason. The Kansas City Chiefs just won the Super Bowl, the Raiders now play in Las Vegas, and the Chargers will have a new face at quarterback for the first time in nearly two decades.
This week, news circulated that Rivers and the Chargers had mutually decided to part ways, marking the end of Rivers’ 16-year run with the franchise.
Rivers and the Denver Broncos clashed 29 times in his career, in which he posted a 13-16 record. He completed 62 percent of his passes and threw for 46 touchdown passes against Denver while compiling an 87.8 passer rating.
It’s unknown if Rivers will play in 2020 and beyond, but his departure is the end of an era for the Broncos and the rest of the AFC West.
Broncos’ cornerback Chris Harris Jr. opened up about the veteran’s departure from the Chargers and mentioned how he brought out the best in him.
“We had great battles, man,” said cornerback Chris Harris said. “Playing Rivers you just knew you had to bring your A-game because he could throw the ball all over the field.”
Pass rusher Derek Wolfe also spoke about River’s time with the Chargers, saying:
“That guy is a true competitor, man,’’ Derek Wolfe said via Mike Klis of 9News. “If I am with the Broncos, anytime you play the Chargers it will be weird not playing against Philip Rivers. It was so much fun to compete against him.’’
Rivers and Wolfe had an interesting relationship on the field that included plenty of trash-talking. That relationship took a strange turn when Wolfe said he would eat the veteran quarterback’s children.

Thankfully, Wolfe has not eaten Rivers’ children.
Like the Chargers, the Broncos are heading in a new direction, and there is a chance Wolfe and Harris do not fit the future vision of the franchise.
Both Wolfe and Harris are free agents this offseason and could be with new teams next year.
An eight-time Pro Bowler, Rivers has amassed 59,271 yards and 397 touchdowns during his career. Rivers said she still has some desire to continue playing professional football, although it is unknown if any team will sign the 38-year-old quarterback after he endured the worst season of his career in 2019-20.
