It’s been a couple rough weeks for the Denver Broncos but it seems as though things are finally turning around for them. The team was in high spirits after Monday night’s win against the Texans as Eric Goodman and Les Shapiro from Afternoon Drive caught up with Derek Wolfe.

“For me, it was more about Coach Kubiak, you know,” Wolfe said. “His first game back after being in the hospital, against the Texans, his former team who fired him. So for me, it was more about getting a win for Coach.”

In addition to the absence of their head coach the week prior, the Broncos defense had been catching a lot of heat lately for starting out their games too slow. Three games into this season the Broncos were the top defense in the NFL, but now a month later, they have slipped down to number six.

“We just made ourselves aware of it and just came out and attacked,” Wolfe explained. “It’s the NFL, you’re gonna get beat sometimes. Everybody’s good, everybody gets paid to play here. You know, you’re gonna get beat by some teams.”

Team problems aside, the schedule also added some hardship for the Broncos, with two tough games in five days (not to mention an ailing quarterback). This past week Denver had a solid 11 days to rest up, opposed to the five days they had between the game against the Falcons and the game against the Chargers.

“You gotta get that recovery time,” Wolfe commented. “We travel all the way to the East Coast twice and I’m not complaining about it, but it wears on your body. Any time you jump on a plane it wears on your body.”

Maybe it was the stress of their head coach’s health or maybe it was the lack of recovery time, but whatever wall the Broncos seemed to hit appears to be gone now. Denver gets the chance to prove themselves against the Chargers once again Sunday when San Diego comes to Mile High.
