Colorado Rapids midfielder Dillon Serna continues an up and rising year for the homegrown player. This season Serna has made 13 appearances for the team contributing with three goals, which is tied for second on the team.
Now the Brighton native is being rewarded with another call-up to the U.S. Under-23 Men’s National Team camp in Manchester, England from August 30 to September 9, 2015. This will be the final training camp before Olympic qualifying with the Americans playing friendlies against England on Sept. 3 and Qatar on Sept. 8.
This will be the second time this year that Serna returns to the international stage after featuring in the Toulon Tournament in France this past June with the US finishing in third place.
With the 2016 Summer Olympics quickly approaching, Serna will hope to prove himself to U-23 coach Andy Herzog as a reliable player regardless if he plays in the midfield as he does in Colorado or in defense for the U-23 national team thus far.
For 21-year-old Serna, he is taking his chances and living a dream playing for his hometown club in the state he was born. Next summer he could see himself in Brazil for the Olympics, and could use that a springboard towards European football with lots of people watching.
Whatever does happen, Serna is certainly becoming one of the highest quality players to come out of the Rapids Academy and hopefully not the last.
