Emmanuel Sanders was sidelined for four games last year due to an ankle injury that he suffered in Week 6 against the Giants. Sanders is coming off of one of his worst seasons statistically in the NFL, but is finally healthy and excited for Case Keenum to lead the offense.
Speaking to Eric Goodman and Les Shapiro of Mile High Sports AM 1340 | FM 104.7, Broncos wide receiver Sanders talked about the new NFL rules, his health, Courtland Sutton, and the rest of the Broncos’ rookie wide receivers.
The NFL implemented a new helmet rule during the offseason, and it has already received a lot of scrutiny after it debuted during the Hall of Fame Game Thursday night. Sanders mentioned that he does not expect the rule to affect him on the playing field.
“I’ve just got to go out and do my job,” said Sanders. “I never try to go into the game and think about the refs. I’m just going out there playing football, trying to make plays. I’ve been in the league nine years and they’ve changed so many rules; it doesn’t affect me anymore.”
Sanders looks rejuvenated this year, but he mentions that his injury last year and the team starting three different quarterbacks was a big contributor to their 5-11 record.
“I had an ankle injury and I went through three different quarterbacks,” Sanders continued. “I guess that’s the word around town – I’m rejuvenated – but I’m the same guy, man. I’m still out here making plays.”
The additions of Courtland Sutton and DaeSean Hamilton have already impressed Sanders early in training camp.
“I had no expectations,” Sanders continued. “But at the end of the day, I told the guys if you keep making those plays like that – going up on top of people like that – it’s going to be dangerous for us this year. It’s going to be a fun year if everybody stays healthy.”
