The Denver Broncos will have a difficult decision to make when they are on the clock with the 15th pick in April’s draft, but ESPN’s Todd McShay thinks one player is the perfect fit.
McShay believes the Broncos should select Alabama wideout Henry Ruggs III with the 15th overall pick to compliment Courtland Sutton and provide young quarterback Drew Lock with another weapon.
“With Ruggs and his fighter jet 4.27 speed still on the board, I’m getting a burner opposite Courtland Sutton for second-year quarterback Drew Lock,” McShay said. “Ruggs is explosive and has a skill set that offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur can design plays around. With some development to his route running and some tacked-on strength, Ruggs has the chance to be special in the NFL and could instantly be a favorite target of the big-armed Lock.”
Ruggs is a projected first-round pick, but his draft value soared after his 4.27 40-yard dash time, which is the second-fastest time for a wide receiver in combine history. He is also just the second player to run the 40-yard dash in under 4.3 seconds.
Ruggs is considered one of the best wide receivers in the draft this season, along with his teammate at Alabama, Jerry Jeudy.
The general consensus is that Ruggs and Jeudy are two of the best wide receivers in this year’s draft, but according to got McShay, Ruggs has shot up draft boards since his performance at the combine.
Ruggs’ stock is rising significantly, and he could be off the board by the time the Broncos are on the clock. Additionally, the Broncos have other needs to address in the draft that could take priority over a wide receiver; however, if Ruggs is on the board when Denver is on the clock, it will be difficult for Denver to pass on him.
The 21-year-old stud caught 40 passes, compiling 746 yards and seven touchdowns for the Crimson Tide in 2019.
