Evan Battey is perhaps one of the most beloved CU basketball players in recent history.

The big man from California was a staple in the Buffs lineup from 2018-22. And now he’ll be a staple on the bench. The University of Colorado announced that Battey has joined Tad Boyle’s coaching staff as an assistant coach in charge of quality analytics.

After his senior season, where he averaged over 12 points per game, Battey made the trek to Europe and played with BC Rilski Sportist of the NBL. Recently, he committed to play for the Colorado team in The Basketball Tournament where he will reunite with former Buffs teammates such as D’Shawn Schwartz and Daylen Kountz. That tournament will get underway on July 19 with the championship being played Aug. 24.

The winner of the 64-team tournament receives $1 million and Team Colorado would love nothing more than to put that money in the bank.

After TBT wraps up, Battey will begin this new chapter of his life.

At just 25 years old, he could be a crucial addition to CU’s staff. He can still relate to high school kids and can also serve as the ultimate voice of an out-of-state player who bled black and gold in his entire time in Boulder.
