It’s still only March, but we now have our first views of Russell Wilson in a Denver Broncos helmet.
But, we don’t just have a still image. Wilson was apparently chomping at the bit, like a true thoroughbred, and he recorded video of himself tossing the pigskin around with new teammates.
First up, Courtland Sutton, the Broncos’ No. 1 receiver. Sutton streaks down the sideline of this practice/soccer field, and Wilson uncorks a beautiful deep ball for a score.

Over his four-year career, Sutton has had to catch passes from Case Keenum, Drew Lock and Teddy Bridgewater. And yet, the star wideout was able to make the Pro Bowl in 2019 with career-highs in receptions (72), yards (1,112) and touchdowns (6).
So, there’s no doubt Sutton is stoked to have one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL on his team. In fact, Wilson’s 228 big-time throws since 2016 are tied for most in the league during the last seven seasons.

Here’s another Wilson-to-Sutton connection, as the two are working on the back-shoulder throw here:

On this throw, Wilson looks right, comes back to his left and connects with Tim Patrick in the end zone:

At 6’4″ Patrick is well suited to go up high for those 50-50 balls in the end zone. And, he’s quietly been producing with those same mediocre quarterbacks as Sutton was. Patrick has really improved the last two years, especially late in the season when other receivers have been injured, hauling in 11 touchdowns over the span.
But, don’t forget about K.J. Hamler, the speed demon, who missed most of his sophomore campaign last season with an injured knee. Hamler got some run in, too:

If and when Hamler is ready to be back this year, he will bring that deep threat as well as the ability to separate from defenders on crossing routes. Hopefully he will still possess all that speed we saw from him in 2020.
In fact, there were a ton of Broncos there. Including center Lloyd Cushenberry, tight ends Albert Okwuegbunam and Andrew Beck, and backup receivers Tyrie Cleveland and Kendall Hinton.

Notably, Jerry Jeudy wasn’t there, but he was in the hospital visiting his mother per reports.
As for the workouts, it’s good news for the Broncos. Of course, running these routes against no defenders isn’t the same as what they’ll face on Sundays, but getting timing down is crucial.
Plus, it seems likely Wilson is asking his pass catchers where they like the ball located while he figures out their timing, too. All of that will translate into better offense on Sundays in the fall.
Of course, Broncos fans are expecting a completely revamped offense. But Wilson knows he can’t just jump in and have things run perfectly, which is why he’s out there on his own with teammates dialing it all in even before mini-camps kick off.
Denver not only landed themselves one of the best field generals in the NFL, but one of the best leaders, too. He’s gone out of his way to invite all those players to his practice field; it all bodes well for the Broncos offense in six months from now.
