Can someone tell John Elway that free agency has started?
I get that he’s not looking to make any rash decisions, and he wants to spend the Broncos’ valuable cap space wisely, but come on now … we’re about to miss the boat. Malik Jackson? Gone. Danny Trevathan? Gone. Brock Osweiler? Gone. C.J. Anderson? Likely gone.
The most notable thing Elway has done this offseason is give Peyton Manning all the time in the world to make the decision everyone already knew he was going to make, and it’s cost them. Just ask Jackson.
Jackson on Broncos: "They could have gotten me done, could have gotten Danny done, could have gotten Brock done for less than nothing."

And Trevathan agrees:
Trevathan on if Broncos could have kept their defensive core together: "I think they could have but that’s not up for me to decide."

Now, the Broncos are sitting with almost $17 million in cap space, and they don’t know what to do with it.
So let me help. Here are five available free agents the Denver Broncos should be targeting (hopefully they’re still available by the time this publishes):
5. Terrance Knighton
EXPERIENCE: 7 years DRAFT: 3rd round (72nd overall) out of Temple
CAREER STARTS: 96 HONORS: None
’15 CAP HIT: $4 M PREDICTED ’16 CAP HIT: $1.4 M
LAST YEAR: 1.5 sacks; 29 total tackles
BEST YEAR: 3 sacks; 42 total tackles; 1 interception; 1 fumble recovery (’13)
WHY IT MAKES SENSE: Simple … He’s cheap, and he wants to be here. Nicki Jhabvala of The Denver Post talked with Knighton earlier this week, and he said, “I’d be more than welcome to reunite with John Elway and the Denver Broncos.”
Pot Roast may not be a natural fit in the Broncos’ 3-4 defense, but he’s a talented run stuffer who could work well in a rotation with Sylvester Williams. If the price is right, why not bring the fan favorite back to Denver?
