It wasn’t long before Bradley Chubb’s name was called on NFL Draft night, but to the surprise of many, maybe a couple picks later then expected.
What may be considered ‘hitting the jackpot’ and music to general manager John Elway‘s ears, Elway was quick and swift to scooping up the pass rushing star out of N.C. State with the No. 5 overall pick and a former pass rusher of the Denver Broncos has high praise for the selection of Chubb.
In an interview with Eric Goodman and Les Shapiro of Mile High Sports AM 1340 | FM 104.7 with future hall of fame linebacker DeMarcus Ware. There’s no doubt the Broncos got it right in the Chubb pick and that he will be a great asset to Denver.
“Chubb is going to be a great asset to Von [Miller] out there, with Shane [Ray], Shaq [Barrett.]” He’s that next up and coming thing for the Broncos,” Ware said.
“When you think about it though, the way that [Joe] Woods runs the defense, he’s running a lot of the 4-3. It looks a lot like a 3-4, but he can use Chubb as a defensive end in the 4-3, but also they can put him at an outside linebacker, maybe the Sam-backer in the 3-4 defense, he’s interchangeable.”
Ware also believes the Broncos could be returning to their dominate status of 2015 when the team won the Super Bowl, leaning heavily on their defense. When asked if the additions to the team in the off season get the Broncos ‘close’ to what they used to look like, Ware said, they can get there.
“I think they can because they have all the personnel there,” Ware said. “They have all the personnel they need…They’re going to be able to run the football. They got a good running back core, they’re going to get to running the football like they used to, protecting the football and getting after it on defense.”
