All hockey eyes might be on Loveland in the coming days.
A social media firestorm erupted when Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog suited up and participated in a morning skate with the Colorado Eagles on Saturday.
Landeskog did not suit up or play in the Eagles’ 3-2 over the San Jose Barracuda, but his presence at Loveland’s Blue Arena to workout while the Avs were in St. Louis feels like a significant step in his long-awaited return to the franchise he helped lead to a Stanley Cup championship in 2022.
Sunday morning, longtime Avalanche insider Adrian Dater provided another update in what could potentially be coming next for Landeskog.
Thanks to the brilliant @puckpedia, he informs me: Gabe Landeskog can agree to a three-game conditioning stint with the Colorado Eagles and it won’t count against the cap for the #Avs. I’m hearing this is likely to happen – though not guaranteed

There has been cautious optimism in the last few weeks that Landeskog could indeed return this season. He recently joined the Avalanche on a road trip and his practice time has been on an upward trend.
A few days ago, during an interview on TNT, defenseman Erik Johnson said it feels like a “matter of when, not if” Landeskog is going to return.
The next logical step would be for him to suit up in a minor league game and the ability for him to do so with the Eagles, without it counting against the Avs’ cap, is an encouraging sign that the Captain could be back for a playoff run.
