The NBA season is still more than a month away from the start of training camp, but Nuggets forward Danilo Galinari is already getting himself in midseason form, readying to play for Italy in the FIBA EuroBasket Championship, which runs Sept. 5-20 across four nations in Europe.
Gallinari is excited to represent his team and be back to playing basketball fully healthy.
“I can’t wait to play for the national team,” Gallinari said earlier this summer in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport. “It’s an experienced group with many leaders.”
The team has aspirations to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, but understands they must first have success at EuroBasket. At the 24-team EuroBasket, Italy, currently ranked 36th in the FIBA World Rankings, will compete in Group B in Berlin against Turkey, Spain, Iceland, Serbia and hosts Germany.
Two Olympic berths are on the line at EuroBasket, with only three additional bids available next summer at the 2016 FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament, so Gallinari and his teammates must make the most of this opportunity.
Gallo shared these two videos from Sky Sport HD via his Twitter account. Whether or not you speak Italian, the videos are filled with funny and inspiring footage from the Italian team’s training camp as they prepare for a run at Lille, France, where the 2016 EuroBasket Championship will be played.
