Gapper: One that finds a hole in the outfield and goes for extra bases.
Twitter was atwitter over the weekend, at least if your timeline includes anything sports related, about a fellow by the name of Brendan Rodgers getting fired.
If that name sounds familiar, it’s because that’s the name of the Rockies top draft pick in 2015. The 19-year-old shortstop from Florida had quite the debut for the Grand Junction Rockies and he’s currently training in advance of his first professional Spring Training coming up in March.
Brendan Rodgers also happens to be the name of the now former manager of Premier League soccer club, Liverpool. Former being the operative word there.
The Northern Irish Rodgers was sacked on Sunday afternoon after a 1-1 draw in a season in which his club had won just four of their games (including against lower level clubs) this year.
Meanwhile, back stateside, @Broddddd3 (as he’s known on Twitter) was getting blasted by Liverpool and Premier League fans who apparently aren’t big enough fans to realize that the onetime Swansea manager would have no reason to don a Rockies hat and jersey in his profile image.
By midday, the Rockies prospect had to post this emphatic message on the social networking site.
IM NOT THE LIVER POOL MANAGER
— Brendan Rodgers (@Broddddd3) October 4, 2015
Ironically, neither was the other Brendan Rodgers at that point.
As of Tuesday, the post had received nearly 13,000 retweets and over 7,500 favorites and was still climbing.
