In a piece of good news that was much-needed today for the Denver Broncos, Garett Bolles has agreed to a four-year extension with the team, which will keep him around through the 2024 season, worth $68 million.
Saturday was largely a bad news day for Broncos Country. All three quarterbacks were sent home from practice due to being in close contact with Jeff Driskel, who has tested positive for the virus, and have now been deemed as ‘high-risk’ meaning Denver will not have any quarterback for Sunday’s game. Royce Freeman is expected start at quarterback as an emergency backup.
However, the news of Bolles’ extension makes that pill somewhat easier to swallow.
The deal will pay Bolles an average of $17 million a season, ranking as the fifth-most in the league on an annual basis. The total value of $68 million currently ranks seventh among all tackles.
That may sound expensive based on Bolles’ first three years as a professional, but he’s been more than worth it this season. He’s easily been the team’s best offensive tackle, and he’s arguably even been one of the best offensive tackles in the entire NFL.
In fact, according to Pro Football Focus, Bolles has been the best tackle in the league, ranking first in overall grade (90.0), fifth in pass-blocking grade (89.2) and third in run-blocking grade (87.1).
Bolles is also one of just five tackles with 500 snaps to not allow a sack, and he’s one of just three to allow fewer than 10 total pressures on the season as well. That level of consistency and stability have led to Bolles being ranked second in pass-blocking efficiency among all tackles with at least 25 pass-blocking reps.
Now, the Broncos can focus on allocating money to Justin Simmons back.
