The Colorado Rapids squandered a perfect opportunity to get back in the win column, but came up short Wednesday at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, finishing in a 2-2 draw with the Chicago Fire soccer club.
The Rapids notched a pair of goals early, but goals from Chicago’s Danny Wilson and Aleksander Katai tied the game and as the final whistle rang across the pitch, Colorado’s draw leaves them dead last in the Western Conference standings, and the only team in the MLS with single digit points.
Dominique Badji’s goal early gave the Rapids the lead. Tommy Smith then followed up Badji’s goal with one of his own in the 15th minute of the match to make it 2-0 Colorado.
Colorado however put a goal into their own net a little later in the first half and after a second goal from Chicago’s Katai, Colorado and Chicago would play to the draw from there on out.
Colorado’s -10 goal differential is tied for second worst in the MLS with Real Salt Lake and only behind the Montreal Impact’s -13.
What’s next:
The Rapids will play Minnesota United FC on Saturday, June 23rd at 7pm MST at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
