Colorado Buffaloes superstar Travis Hunter is expected to hear his name called on Saturday, awarding him the most coveted individual trophy in college trophy.
All signs point to Hunter winning the Heisman Trophy, including the gambling odds that have him as a -2000 favorite. That gives him over 95% implied probability of being awarded the trophy to the best player in college football.
He would be Colorado’s second Heisman Trophy winner and the first since Rashaan Salaam in 1994.
Many people are claiming that Hunter’s main reason for winning the award is due to how many snaps he plays during a game. Hunter has averaged over 100 snaps per game and over 120 in games where he wasn’t injured.
Those are unprecedented numbers. Although he’s the first one to do it, people claim that there are many players that could play that many snaps if their coaches were to allow them.
Nobody would know how much of a fallacy that is more than Denver Broncos cornerback Pat Surtain II. He has quickly become one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL. At 6-foot-2 and over 200 pounds, he has the size and quickness to be a capable wide receiver.
Surtain was interviewed for the latest edition of the Mile High Sports magazine and was asked about Hunter.
“I think he’s a unicorn, a jack of all trades,” Surtain said. “I don’t think we’ve ever seen anything like it, I mean at such a high level.”
βI just think heβs the ultimate player.β

The debates surrounding Hunter and his Heisman campaign seem to be coming from two different sides. There are people that watch and think there are many players that can do the same thing and then there are people who have played and understand how difficult that is to accomplish.
“It’s not just playing both ways, it’s the amount of plays he plays at an efficient level,” Surtain said. “I don’t think people take that unnoticed but people just have to understand that. That’s very hard to do.”
The two-time Pro Bowler knows an elite player when he sees one and he had the highest of praise for the presumptive Heisman winner.
“I just think he’s the ultimate player,” Surtain said. “Player’s player for sure.”
