The slide continues for the NHL’s worst team, who lost their third game in a row and eighth in 10 games on Sunday. The Colorado Avalanche fell to 11-18-1 on the season after a 4-1 loss to the Jets in Winnipeg.
The Jets, meanwhile, are winners of two in a row and are slowly climbing in the standings. The Jets entered the game undefeated at home against Central Division foes, and continued that dominance thanks to 27 saves from Connor Hellebuyck. Calvin Pickard made his third consecutive start for Colorado and fifth in six games as Semyon Varlamov battles an injured groin. It was Pickard’s first NHL start in his hometown.
Nikolaj Ehlers had two goals for the Jets in the win, Patrik Laine had a goal and two assists. Jarome Iginla scored Colorado’s only goal, marking his 1,281st career point. That’s good for a tie for 34th on the NHL’s all-time list.
Things don’t get any easier for Colorado in the coming days. They are in Minneapolis on Tuesday to face Minnesota, who are winners of seven straight.
