Things went from bad to worse on Saturday night for head coach Jared Bednar and the Colorado Avalanche as the team dropped their fifth consecutive game and lost defenseman Erik Johnson to a broken leg.
Tyler Seguin notched two points and Kari Lehtonen stopped all 23 shots to help the Dallas Stars shut out the Avalanche on the road, 3-0. Colorado dropped all five games in their longest home stand of the season and will now be without their top defenseman for six to eight weeks. Johnson suffered the injury (no video) blocking a shot by Seguin in the second period.
Dallas was a team heading in the same direction as Colorado, having dropped four of their last five games and playing without Patrick Sharp, who is sidelined with a concussion for the second time this season.
Colorado has earned just one point over its last five games and now claims the lowest point total in the NHL after Arizona picked up a point on Saturday night. The Avalanche are in Nashville on Tuesday to try and turn things around.
