The Colorado Avalanche hit a new low this season by reaching a new season-high with their seventh consecutive loss, falling 3-2 at Pepsi Center on Wednesday night. The Vancouver Canucks scored one goal in each period to hand Colorado their league-worst 31st loss of the season heading into the All-Star break.
Sven Baertschi scored twice, including a pretty power-play goal in the 3rd period that put Vancouver ahead for good in the Canucks’ 3-2 victory. Calvin Pickard made 38 saves in the loss to earn second star of the night honors behind Baertschi. While Baertschi was credited with the game-winner on a Landeskog penalty, the real difference in the game was Markus Granlund‘s goal in the second period, which came off a turnover behind the Colorado net by Nikita Zadorov.
Colorado’s seven-game losing streak is now their longest of the season, eclipsing a six-game skid suffered between Nov. 23 and Dec. 6. Colorado also has a pair of five-game losing streaks to go with those. The Avalanche have won back-to-back games just twice all year.
Colorado enters the All-Star break with the fewest points in the NHL at 28. Only one other team in hockey has fewer than 48 – Arizona with 36.
