Hockey’s lowest-scoring team continues to struggle to find offense as the Colorado Avalanche were shut out in Minnesota on Tuesday night, 2-0, to extend a four-game losing streak.
Charlie Coyle and Mikko Koivu tallied goals as Devan Dubnyk picked up an 18-save shutout to help the Wild defeat the Avalanche. Semyon Varlamov made 31 saves in his return to the ice from a groin injury, including a sensational slide across the crease to rob Jason Pominville early in the 1st period, but it was not enough as Colorado suffered its sixth shutout of the season.
The Avalanche mustered just 18 shots on Dubnyk in the loss. Colorado ranks 28th in the NHL in shots per game and dead last in goals per game. Despite their overall struggles on the season, Colorado was actually 2-0 against Minnesota entering Tuesday’s game.
With the loss, Colorado falls to 11-19-1 – four points behind Arizona for last place in the NHL. Colorado is back home on Thursday against Toronto, the last team they beat. The Avs beat the Leafs 3-1 on Dec. 11 in Toronto, one of only two wins since Nov. 21.
