The last time Golden State was in Denver for a game that counted, the Nuggets ended a seven-game win streak and handed the Warriors one of just nine losses in a record-setting season. On Thursday night at Pepsi Center, Denver ended a streak but didn’t come close to a win.
The Nuggets held Golden State’s Kevin Durant to 18 points in the 125-101 loss, ending a 72-game streak in which Durant scored at least 20 points. Golden State ran away with the game, leading by 24 at the end of the third quarter and prompting Steve Kerr to slash minutes for his stars. The Warriors were coming off a home win at Dallas the night prior in which Steph Curry tweaked his ankle.
Still, Curry finished with a game-high 33 points in just under 30 minutes. Durant played just 29:32, down from his average of 34.7 this season.
Michael Malone emptied his bench in the loss; only Darrell Arthur (knee) did not play. Rookies Juancho Hernangomez, Malik Beasley and Jamal Murray each had career highs in points.
The loss brings Denver’s record to 3-5 overall and 0-2 at home. They host Detroit Saturday.
