They only travel to the Mile High City about once a year, but Denver must feel a bit like home for the Boston Bruins. Boston improved to 6-1-1 over their last eight visits to Pepsi Center with a 2-0 win on Sunday night.
Boston was playing on the second night of a back-to-back (they won in Arizona on Saturday), but it was Colorado who looked listless in the loss. The Avalanche mustered just 20 shots on Tuukka Rask while Semyon Varlamov was asked to make 44 saves in the loss.
David Krejci scored the only meaningful goal of the game halfway through the first period, picking up a pass and a pick from David Backes to beat Varlamov. Despite suffering the loss, Varlamov was named the game’s first star as he single-handedly kept Colorado in the game until the end. Dominic Moore tallied an empty net goal to seal the win.
Colorado falls to 6-8-0 on the season, with offense becoming a major concern for the club. The Avalanche have been shut out four times this season and held to a goal or less in half of their games. They conclude a four-game homestand on Tuesday against Los Angeles.
