Thursday’s game has been postponed.
The NHL announced Wednesday that the finale between the Avalanche and Minnesota Wild has been postponed due to an abundance of caution due to the high amount of players added to the COVID protocol list. Five Minnesota Wild players, along with Colorado’s Tyson Jost, were added to the list hours before the postponement was announced.
A make-up date will be announced at a later time.
The Avs have played the Wild three times in the past week, going 2-0-1. The first two games took place on back-to-back nights in Minnesota last weekend before the Avalanche hosted Minnesota for the first of two scheduled games at Ball Arena on Tuesday.
Wild forward Marcus Foligno was the first player added to the COVID protocol list, and the hope from Minnesota was that his COVID result was an isolated incident. The sickness has since spread throughout the team, as Foligno was joined by Jared Spurgeon, Joel Eriksson Ek, Nick Bonino, Marcus Johansson and Nick Bjugstad.
Minnesota’s games will be postponed through at least Feb. 9.
Colorado is currently scheduled to travel to St. Louis for two consecutive weekend road games against the Blues starting Feb. 6. It’s unclear if those games would get rescheduled if more positive cases come out of the Avalanche’s roster on Thursday.
