The Colorado Rockies are officially World Series contenders. After battling through a brutal 46-game stretch of opponents with a record of .500 or greater and coming out of it with 30-16 (.652) record, the excitement in LoDo is reaching “Rocktober” levels as the Rockies continue to play incredible baseball.
Coming off a four-game sweep in Atlanta, the Colorado Rockies (68-56) have an opportunity to ride the momentum of the franchise’s first ever four-game road series victory over the Braves into this week’s six-game home stand against San Diego and St. Louis.
What has been particularly impressive about this 2018 Colorado Rockies squad has been the resiliency they have displayed throughout the highs and lows of the season. There have been stretches where the offense could not hit a beach ball and other moments where the bullpen pitchers look like they would struggle to retire little leaguers, but the raw talent on this roster has been evident from the start. It was always going to be a question of whether this team would be able to play consistently enough to keep up with the pace of the Diamondbacks and Dodgers.
Now in the third week of August, it is clear that the Rockies are not only capable of hanging with its NL West foes, but should be feared around the entire league. The playoff race is going to be tight and the margin for error is slimmer than ever, but after essentially playing 1/3 of the season against playoff caliber teams, the Rockies should be primed for the seventh playoff berth in franchise history.
