In case you missed it, Jordan “Sunshine” Taylor made one of the best catches you’ll ever see on Friday, and Broncos Country reacted in kind.
Taylor, a favorite of Peyton Manning, is in the midst of a battle for the Broncos’ No. 3 wideout position, and it may take plays like this to earn him a spot on the final roster; he’ll have to surpass Bennie Fowler, Cody Latimer and Jordan Norwood, all of which were on the 53-man roster last year.
But when you have suction cups for hands like Taylor does, it’s hard to deny his worth.
Here’s what head coach Gary Kubiak and Taylor himself had to say about the highlight reel play on Friday:
Kubiak on the catch:
“I saw it from like 75 yards away, so it was obviously something special. I’ll go take a peak. Jordan is an interesting kid. It seems like the harder things get and the longer we practice and those types of things is when he starts to play at his best. His legs got a little tired today, but he keeps going. I think his conditioning level gives him a chance to be a really good player.”
Taylor on the catch:
“Honestly I just threw my hand up and thank god for these gloves, it stuck in there. I haven’t seen it on film, so I’ll check it out here in a little bit.”
Taylor on working with Manning last year:
“Working with [QB] Peyton [Manning] last year was priceless. The things he taught me during his rehab is stuff that I’ll take the rest of my career and definitely in this camp.”
Taylor on his special teams role:
“I’ve got to have a huge role on special team this year. It’s going to be an important factor on me making the 53-man roster. I have to play on all four phases. I’m looking forward to that and I’m trying to improve on that.”
Taylor on the wide receiver competition:
“We have a lot of competition at the wide receiver position this year. There are a lot of guys that are really talented and have been playing for a while. Every day is just about coming out and getting a little better and trying to make a mark.”
