Just 24 hours after the announcement that he is no longer part of the NFL’s substance abuse program thanks to two years of clean tests, Broncos outside linebacker Von Miller spoke with members of the media. But Miller’s not ready to throw a party.
Here are the highlights from his conversation with reporters…
Von Miller: “It’s not time to start the confetti and the balloons and all that. I still have a long way to go. We still have a long way to go on defense. I still have a long way to go to be the type of player that I want to be for this organization. That’s where my mind is at right now. (I’m) just coming out here and having fun. All that other stuff, it’s cool, but I had already come into camp with my mind in the moment, with my guys, wanting to get everybody else better and wanting to inspire everybody else to play great and let this year be the year.”
Miller: “The Von I am that everybody knows me as is the Von I’m going to be. You just have to make the right choices and eliminate the mistakes and be the same guy every single day.”
Miller: “I can’t just sit here and say I’m mature. I’m just trying to be the best version of Von that I can be. If maturity is coming with that, then it is. That just hasn’t been my focus. It’s not where my mind has been at. I guess that’s come along with it, but my mind’s just been on the team trying to be great, trying to be do something that’s never been done before.”
Miller: “With the young guys—especially with Shane (Ray)—he’s going to be such a great part of this defense. We spend so much time with him because he’s going to have his way. He’s going to be here with us. The more that he can do for us, the more our defense can do.”
Miller: “I have always said before that when I’m here, on the football field and I’m grinding that I really don’t think about (my contract situation) at all. When I go home, I really don’t think about it at all. That’s just what has worked for me coming in from college, through my rookie season and here now. I do give it mind when you guys talk about it, but as soon as I get out this moment right here, I’m on to the next thing.”
