The Colorado Avalanche assigned goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood, who has missed the first four games of the season, to the Colorado Eagles on a conditioning loan. Blackwood has taken part in limited team practices, but in a restricted fashion for the majority of training camp and the preseason. Hockey Mountain High was the first to report that Blackwood was injured players in mid-September.

How long will Blackwood be with the Eagles?

Usually, a player on a conditioning loan can only stay for a limited time. Typically, the standard is six days and three games. The Eagles do not play until Saturday against the Coachella Valley Firebirds (SEA). They then play the Ontario Reign (LAK) on Sunday and the Firebirds again on Tuesday. Technically, if the Eagles accept Blackwood on Saturday, he could play in all three games.

History

This would not be the first time that the Avalanche have loan a player to the Eagles for conditioning. Last season, Gabriel Landeskog played two games in Loveland as part of his three-year journey back to the ice, where Landeskog proved that he was ready to play. During Landeskog’s loan, the captain tallied a goal and an assist – and mentioned that having the Eagles so close to Denver made things easy.
