When considering the Broncos’ offensive potential, Paxton Lynch seems to be the main focus, but, as the Broncos have proven in the past, a lot more goes into the offense than just a quarterback.
Arran Andersen of 7News Denver joined Gil Whiteley to discuss the franchise’s running back situation.
Steering away from more Paxton Lynch talk, Andersen told Whitely, “The guy I want to see eventually with a football in his hand is Devontae Booker.”
The Broncos picked up Booker in the fourth round, which was pretty lucky considering he was projected by many to go in the second or third round.
“This was an incredible steal,” Andersen said. “This was a guy that John Elway said he was ready to move on in the first round had Lynch not been available.”
And for good reason. Before a torn meniscus knocked Booker out for the year, he had accumulated 1,261 yards and 11 touchdowns in 10 games during his senior year at Utah, adding another 37 receptions and 316 yards through the air.
“This is a guy who is not only going to be able to run with the football, but catch it out of the backfield,” Andersen told Whiteley. “And I think this is a talent that is really going to take this offense to the next level.”
Along with C.J. Anderson, Booker should help the Broncos’ backfield grow to the point that it can carry this offense through an NFL season. With the Denver defense backing them up, there’s a definite path to success for the Broncos.
