Denver Nuggets rookie guard Jamal Murray has been named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team.
This should not come as a surprise to most Nuggets fans, considering the accolades Murray racked up during his first season in the NBA. Murray was twice named Western Conference Rookie of the Month (October and November), averaging 10.4 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists, and was honored as the Most Valuable Player in the BBVA Compass Rising Stars Challenge during the All-Star Weekend festivities, leading Team World to a victory with 36 points and 11 assists (both game highs).
The former Kentucky Wildcat and 2016 No. 7-overall pick appeared in all 82 games for the Nuggets last season and averaged 9.9 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game in 21.5 minutes per game off the bench.
Murray is expected to take on a more central role for Denver in his sophomore season in the NBA as he grows into the speed of the game and becomes more comfortable leading the young Nuggets’ core.
