The Denver Broncos signed offensive tackle Ja’Wuan James to a four-year, $52 million deal on March 11. James became the highest paid right tackle in NFL history with the signing.
The Broncos had a big hole to fill at right tackle, and James is expected to have a very high ceiling for his potential, making him a very good replacement.
James sat down with Les Shapiro of Afternoon Drive on Mile High Sports AM 1340 | FM 104.7 radio to talk about his thoughts on joining the Denver Broncos.
“It feels like a perfect fit, especially with the scheme we’re going to run here,” James said. “I feel like the physicality and athleticism I bring is really going to help. Shoot, Coach Munchak, that’s another plus. He’s the best in the business and I can’t wait to be coached by him”
The 6-foot-6, 317-pound tackle has long arms and is very mobile, which should help in the zone blocking scheme Denver hopes to run this upcoming year.
James was selected by the Miami Dolphins in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft (19th overall) and has not made a Pro Bowl in his five-year career, which is one of his biggest criticisms. James hopes to realize his potential this year with his new team.
“That’s another reason why I chose here. Because of the guy whos the position coach of the O-line, coach Munchak. I’ve heard a lot of different things through him and I’m going to fully bye in and do everything he says to reach my potential.”
Pro football focus graded out James at a 67.3 pass block and a 69.1 run block. James started 62 games and was one of the top names on the market at offensive line.
