JJ Hickson’s time in Denver is coming to a close, and the big man is preparing himself for a new home.
According to Chris Dempsey of the Denver Post, the Denver Nuggets have been looking to trade Hickson for the past month in an attempt to get him into a situation where he can make more of an impact.
Hickson understands and is likewise waiting for an increased opportunity.
“I’ll be alright” Hickson told Dempsey.
It has been no secret that the Nuggets have been shopping the big man all season long. Hickson is a very serviceable player that has a lot of gas left in the tank; however, he hasn’t seen a lot of playing time this year due to the plethora of talent the Nuggets have down low.
Hickson is averaging 7.2 points per game, 4.7 rebounds per game, and is shooting over 50% from the field.
In the nine games Hickson has started, the Nuggets are 5-4.
Hickson can play both power forward and center, but guys like Kenneth Faried, Darrel Aurthur, Nikola Jokic, Joffrey Lauvergne and Jusuf Nurkic take up all the playing time at those positions, leaving Hickson with a spot on the bench.
The NBA trade deadline is February 18th, so the Nuggets have until then to move the 27 year old.
The Nuggets will likely seek a draft pick, or a serviceable player in exchange for Hickson.
