Justin Forsett could not be happier right now.
In his first full day at the Broncos facility, the 31-year-old running back walked around the halls of the UCHealth Training Center with a big smile imprinted across his face. Nothing could bring him down.
“I have a lot to be smiling about!” Forsett told Eric Goodman and Les Shapiro of Afternoon Drive on Mile High Sports Radio. “I’ve got a job!”
For the nine-year vet, having a job isn’t something Forsett has ever had to worry about. While he’s bounced around the league playing for six teams, he’s always had a place to call home. That hasn’t been the case this year.
The former Pro Bowler was cut by the Baltimore Ravens twice this season and once by the Detroit Lions. Now, he’s been signed by the Denver Broncos, and he’s ecstatic to be back in the Gary Kubiak offense.
“Man, it’s awesome,” Forsett said. “Words can’t even explain coming here and seeing family, because that’s what I consider those guys. They’ve been with me throughout some ups and downs in my career, especially Kube [head coach Gary Kubiak] and Rico [offensive coordinator Rick Dennison] and [quarterback coach] Greg Knapp. All those guys have been a part of my career and some of the success I’ve had.”
Forsett played two years under Kubiak and Co. The first in Houston, back in 2013 when Kubiak was head coach, and the second in Baltimore, when Kubiak was the offensive coordinator of the Ravens.
During that season in Baltimore, Forsett had the best year of his career, rushing for 1,266 yards on 5.4 yards per carry and scoring eight touchdowns.
The experience he has in this offensive system gives Forsett the confidence to contribute immediately in the Broncos backfield.
“I feel comfortable with the offense,” Forsett said. “I know the system, inside and out, so it’s just about when they want to put me in.”
