One of the recently-acquired Broncos hoping to fill the shoes of the departed Wes Welker may have already seen his season come to an end. Wide receiver Kyle Williams, signed during the offsesason, was carted off the field with an apparent Achilles injury in the second day of training camp.
Williams suffered his injury during punt drills, as he was hoping to compete for a spot not only as one of Manning’s top targets, but also as a valuable asset in the return game.
The former 49er and Chief was carted off the field after being tended to by trainers and was seen covering his hands and crying as he left.
He was very angry with the situation, as evidenced by the tweet he posted not long after leaving the field
https://twitter.com/KyleWilliams_10/status/627525931897221120 Williams is most-remembered for his two fumbled punts in the 2011-12 NFC Championship Game. Williams was released by the 49ers in November 2013 and signed with the Chiefs, but tore his ACL less than two weeks into his time with the team. He was released by the Chiefs just before the start of the 2014 season.
Sadly, it appears Williams will not have a chance for NFL redemption with the Broncos, as the extent of Saturday’s injury is reportedly severe.
