Gabriel Landeskog is back on the ice, as he continues to recover from an upper-body injury. The Colorado Avalanche’s captain traveled with the team to Canada and was on the ice ahead of practice in Toronto.

The 33-year-old forward was injured after crashing into the net against the Florida Panthers on Jan. 4. On Jan. 6, head coach Jared Bednar said Landeskog would “miss some weeks” due to the injury.

It was unclear exactly how long his recovery would take. His presence on Tuesday offered a bit of clarification, as did Bednar.

According to the Denver Post’s Corey Masisak, the Avs’ coach has not ruled out Landeskog playing before the Olympic break.

The Avalanche will play the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday night, the first game of a back-to-back, followed by the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday evening. The team wraps up the road trip with a matinee showdown against the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday.

While Tuesday was the first public sighting of Landeskog on the ice, the Denver Gazette’s Evan Rawal reports Bednar said he’s been “on the ice for a few days now.”

The Avs return home to play two games at Ball Arena — the Red Wings on Feb. 2 and the San Jose Sharks on Feb. 4 — before the nearly three-week Olympic break.
