The Colorado Rockies activated second baseman D.J. LeMahieu from the 10-day disabled list on Tuesday, only hours prior to that night’s home game against the Los Angeles Angels.

LeMahieu, who was placed on the disabled list with a strained right hamstring on April 30, was cleared after working out with trainer Keith Duggar prior to the game. One of the key cogs in the Rockies’ struggling offense, LeMahieu is hitting .290 with five home runs and 12 RBI.

Per MLB.com’s Thomas Harding, LeMahieu will hit leadoff against the Angels, a role that manager Bud Black has preferred of late, given No. 2 hitter Charlie Blackmon’s power.

Infielder Pat Valaika, who was terrific off the bench for the Rockies last season, was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque after hitting only .103 in 58 at-bats this season.
