Colorado State Rams linebacker Josh Watson has high hopes this season for the CSU Rams despite all of the national doubt that surrounds this team.
Even with the opening loss against Hawaii, Watson is very confident when it comes to playing Mountain West competition. The Rams begin in-conference play in October and Watson knows that they must start fast against their own conference foes.
“We gotta start off fast, we handle adversity well and we have an edge, a chip on our shoulders. Shoot we’re not supposed to win conference, we’re not supposed to win a lot of games this year but we can upset a lot of people by just our play and effort on defense,” Watson said to Jake Meier of the On Campus Radio Show, the Mile High Sports Radio pre/postgame show for CSU Athletics.
“Don’t ask if your dreams are crazy, ask if they are crazy enough,” Watson takes the latest quote from Nike’s marketing campaign featuring Colin Kaepernick to heart. Watson has big goals for himself this season.
“My season goal is to win the conference, that’s my number one goal. To lead this defense in the right direction…You know you might mess up a play, a lot of guys wanna get down on themselves, my job is to make sure that they know that we have another opportunity to get back out there on the field,” Watson said. “I just feel like being able to get this defense to a championship is my number one goal.”
Playing well against Mountain West opponents is step one towards achieving his goal. Before this team plays in conference for the final seven games, they have to get past the Illinois State Redbirds on Saturday.
