We learned some very important information about DeMarcus Ware today, and it has absolutely nothing to do with his injury status, his upcoming contract discussions or football in general; it has everything to do with the fact that D-Ware, NFL superstar, is an R&B singer!
And no, this isn’t just a gimmick. Not only does Ware have a passion for music, but he started an R&B group, created an album and just released the first single — well, it was written and recorded over decade ago, but we finally get to hear it!
In fact, Ware wrote an entire article on The Players’ Tribune, describing his lifelong passion for music.
Check out this awesome track, “Sometimes,” from Ware’s High School R&B group, Mirage.
“Yup, that’s me,” Ware writes. “Or, if you want to get technical, that’s us. That’s a song called “Sometimes,” by Mirage, my old band; I’m the one singing alto.”
Ware goes on to detail how a four teenagers who don’t have the money to rent out a studio lay their tracks down.
“Man, we were tenacious. We tried the low-traffic bathrooms at school — spent hours putting towels up, down, around and on the floorboards, trying to find “good acoustics” (like we’d been told you were supposed to). We tried out-of-service elevators — spent hours trying to get that echo just right. Honestly, we tried every amateur trick in the book.”
Unfortunately, we’ll never know just how revolutionary Mirage could have been. Maybe they could have been the next Beatles? Maybe they were the real Backstreet Boys?
As Ware said, like all great bands, sometimes you just have to go your separate ways.
“You know how it goes: one guy heads off to college … one guy goes solo … one guy enlists in the military … one guy moves to Georgia for a 9-to-5 job …
… and then another guy becomes an All-Pro NFL linebacker.”
It’s a shame, but at least we’ve got “Sometimes” to keep us warm at night.
