After seeing Jordan Lyles leave consecutive starts early with a toe injury on his left foot, the Colorado Rockies elected to put the starting pitcher on the 15-day disabled list with a toe sprain on Monday. In a corresponding move, the Rockies recalled relief pitcher Tommy Kahnle from Triple-A Albuquerque.
Additionally, the club has placed RHP Jordan Lyles (toe sprain) on the 15-Day Disabled List.

Lyles has been attempting to fight through the injury since he first sprained the toe in a start against the San Francisco Giants on May 23. He came down funny on his left foot on a pitch and was forced from the game after just four innings.
The 24-year-old’s next start was pushed back to Sunday against the Philadelphia Phillies – when he aggravated the injury avoiding a comebacker in the second inning.
“I’d already torn and broke everything in my last start,” Lyles told Nick Groke of the Denver Post on Sunday. “We just tried to delay the inevitable. We taped it as tight as we could tape it. And I was doing fine until I over-extended it again.”
The righty will see a foot specialist on Tuesday to determine if surgery will be necessary.
“If I have to have surgery, I don’t know how long I will be out,” Lyles said to Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post.
Lyles is 2-5 with a 5.29 ERA and a 30/19 K/BB ratio over 49 innings in 10 starts this season.
Kahnle is being recalled from Triple-A for the first time this year after a solid rookie season in Colorado’s bullpen last year. The 25-year-old posted a 4.19 ERA with a 63/31 K/BB ratio in 68 and two-thirds innings in 2014.
Kahnle made his 2015 debut in Monday night’s matchup with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The righty entered in the sixth inning and retired four straight after walking the first batter he faced. He left after one and one-third shutout innings with two strikeouts.
The Rockies also recalled right-handed pitcher David Hale from Triple-A to serve as their 26th man for Tuesday’s doubleheader with the Dodgers. Hale is set to start one of the two games with Jorge De La Rosa starting the other.
