Make-A-Wish Colorado will hold its second annual Whiskey, Wine & Wishes event on Wednesday, April 10th at Mission Ballroom in Denver. This fun celebration is country western themed and includes food, drinks, silent and live auctions and a live concert by Randall King! During the program, Make-A-Wish will present its second Wish Hero award, which honors an organization or individual that has provided extraordinary support for the nonprofit.

This year’s Wish Hero award recipient is the Colorado Avalanche, which has helped to grant dozens of wishes to wish kids across the country. Special guests from the Colorado Avalanche will accept the award on behalf of the team. To learn more about Whiskey, Wine & Wishes, click here.

“The support from the Colorado Avalanche is amazing,” shares Scott Dishong, CEO of Make-A-Wish Colorado. “The organization and players go out of their way to make each wish truly special. We are excited to recognize them and celebrate their years of support.”

Recently, the Avalanche organization has helped grant wishes for 8-year-old Jack and 14-year-old Jackie, both huge fans of the team and the sport. For Jack, the most memorable part of his wish was suiting up with the team and skating around the ice with them during their pre-game warmup! Jack’s teammates from his youth hockey league showed up at the game and cheered the loudest out of the hometown crowd when Jack stepped out onto the ice!

Wish kid Jackie couldn’t wait to meet each Avalanche player and get to know them by asking questions about their hobbies and pets! Her eyes widened and mouth dropped when she met superstar Nathan Mackinnon. He even gifted her one of his hockey sticks and signed it with a personalized message! Jackie was speechless until she said “this is the best day of my life!”

For more than 40 years, Make-A-Wish Colorado has been creating life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. When a wish is granted, a child replaces fear with confidence, sadness with joy and anxiety with hope. The majority of wish kids go on to beat their critical illnesses, and research shows that a wish can help children build the physical and emotional strength they need to fight – giving them a better chance of surviving and thriving.

Events like Whiskey, Wine & Wishes, as well as individual and corporate support, will enable Make-A-Wish Colorado to bring the hope and strength of a wish to more children than ever before. Research shows that wishes are an important part of a child’s health care journey and can provide the hope and strength needed to fight a critical illness.
