Malik Reed is a wildcard which is currently paying off for the Denver Broncos.
Reed has really stepped up as of late, following Von Miller being placed on Injured Reserve just before the regular season kicked off. Reed, rushing from Miller’s left side, has enjoyed back-to-back two-sack games. That doubles his output in the important category from last year.
His pressure on Cam Newton was crucial in the Broncos’ win over New England, and last week, he sacked arguably the toughest quarterback in the league to bring down in Patrick Mahomes.
Mahomes was actually sacked twice before halftime, by Bradley Chubb and then Dre’Mont Jones. Then, to keep that momentum rolling, Reed took down the NFL MVP to start the second half. Reed came off the edge, ran through tight end Nick Keizer and hit Mahomes hard.
It looked like the Chiefs, who led by 15 at that point, were going for the jugular with a deep pass to start the second half. Instead, Reed ended that opportunity with ease.
His back-to-back weeks of multiple sacks makes him only the eighth Broncos player to accomplish the feat, joining Von Miller, Chubb and others. And his great play — including five total tackles and another sack of backup Chad Henne — earned Reed ELITE Sportsbook’s Athlete of the Week honors.
