Peyton Manning and Missy Franklin each snagged an ESPY Award Wednesday night as the sports world recognized athletes in team and individual achievements.

For Franklin, that accomplishment was winning the category for Best Female College Athlete. She beat out a competitive field that included Florida softball player Lauren Haeger, who helped her team win back-to-back NCAA championships for the first time in five years. Another highly talented player among the field was Breanna Stewart, a UConn Basketball standout who led the Huskies Women’s team to three consecutive Final Four’s, where she won most outstanding player each time. Stewart is the first women to achieve that honor while Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has been the only male player to do so.

Although Franklin was unable to accept her award in Los Angeles, she tweeted out a video of the car problems in Denver that prevented her from making it.

Manning, joined by his daughter Mosley, sat front row at the award show as he accepted the first award of the night. Best Record Breaking Performance kicked off the ESPYS while he made a very humbling speech commending the career of nearby Brett Favre.

“Brett was an unbelievably durable player, great passer, great quarterback and an even greater competitor,” Manning said in his award speech. “I broke this record because I had the fortune of playing for some outstanding coaches and some incredible teammates.”

Manning broke the record for most career touchdowns, 508, previously set by Favre in 2010, when he threw a strike to Demaryius Thomas last season. Manning now has 530 career TD passes.
