If all you looked at were individual performances, you might think that the New England Patriots walked out of Mile High Stadium with the AFC Championship title.
Tom Brady had 27 completions for 310 yards while Peyton Manning had 17 completions for 176 yards. Rob Gronkowski had a monster game with 144 yards off 8 receptions, while Owen Daniels posted a measly 33 yards off 2 receptions.
Though Brady threw for nearly twice as many yards as Manning, the bottom line is touchdowns, not stats, and the bottom line is that the best team won.
Manning threw two touchdowns and zero interceptions while Brady threw one touchdown and two interceptions. Likewise, Gronkowski caught four times as many passes as Daniels and quadrupled his yardage, but only scored one touchdown, while Daniels scored two.
Broncos fans called in to Morning Mayhem with Dan Williams and Marcello Romano to bask in the hard fought victory over the New England Patriots and recognize the team as a whole.
“It’s not about Peyton or Brock anymore. It’s about this team,” Danny said.
According to footballoutsiders.com The Denver Broncos’ defense is the eighth ranked defense of all time in terms of efficiency, and also the best defense Brady has ever faced.
Tom Brady had a hard time keeping his cool, as he was hit 23 times, which was twice as many hits as he’d ever suffered in a single game all year. All that pressure and the combined efforts of the entire Denver Broncos defense led to Brady posting a dismal 48 completion percentage, which is his worst playoff performance ever.
Unlike this year’s NFC Championship game, where Cam Newton accounted for two passing and two rushing touchdowns, the AFC Championship game wasn’t a flashy victory with mind-blowing individual performances. As a caller quoted “The Fast and the Furious” to Danny and Cello this morning, “I don’t care if you win by an inch or a mile. A win is a win.”
