Mark Sanchez to miss few weeks with thumb surgery

According to Mike Klis of 9News, the Denver Broncos will begin their OTAs without Marks Sanchez, who underwent thumb surgery over the weekend.

Klis says the procedure was to repair a torn ligament in his non-throwing hand, and he’s expected to be out at least a week. With OTAs beginning on May 24, he’ll likely miss at least the first few days.

Sanchez suffered the injury while working out in the Broncos weight room last Thursday. After finishing the workout, pain persisted and he alerted the Broncos trainers, and he underwent the surgery on Saturday in Vail.

While he’ll be out for the first true snaps of the offseason, Sanchez will still remain the “starter” until further notice. His absence, though, will give Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch an opportunity, however small, to prove themselves to the Broncos coaching staff in first-team reps.
