With a trio of banged up wide receivers, the Green Bay Packers have found some insurance prior to Sunday’s NFC Championship game.

On Saturday, the Packers elevated wide receiver Max McCaffrey from their practice squad to their roster. To make room, they placed center JC Tretter on injured reserve.

The son of former Denver Broncos wide receiver Ed McCaffrey, Max McCaffrey spurned the Broncos last offseason, instead signing with the Oakland Raiders as an undrafted free agent. The 22-year-old was signed to the Packers practice squad on Dec. 20.

McCaffrey is a native of Castle Rock, Colo. Like his four brothers Christian, Dylan and Luke McCaffrey, Max attended Valor Christian High School in Highlands Ranch, Colo.

It remains to be seen if McCaffrey will ever see the field on Sunday. Though they are all listed as questionable, Jordy Nelson (ribs), Davante Adams (ankle) and Geronimo Allison (hamstring) are all expected to play.
