Earlier this week, Colorado Buffaloes head coach Mike MacIntyre was named the Pac-12 Coach of the Year, a fantastic honor for a man who looked to be sitting on the hottest seat in the conference heading into the year.
Today, he topped that, as he has been named the 2016 Walter Camp Coach of the Year.
The Walter Camp Coach of the Year award is voted on by the nation’s 129 coaches and sports information directors. He follows Bill McCartney (1989) as the second Colorado head coach to earn the award.
With a record of 10-2, MacIntyre’s Buffaloes have become just the ninth Power-5 team since 1972 to secure double-digit victories in a season after finishing with four or fewer victories the year before.
It has truly been a magical year in Boulder, and “The Rise” is most definitely real.
After winning no more than four games in each of MacIntyre’s first three years, the Buffs will be heading out west this Friday to take on the Washington Huskies in the Pac-12 Championship Game. They’re currently ranked No. 8 in the country, and a victory could give them a chance at sneaking into the College Football Playoffs.
