After 14 seasons with the Colorado Avalanche, Milan Hejduk is set to be inducted into the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame on April 19 as member of the Class of 2016.
Upon his retirement at the end of the 2013 season, Hejduk ranked second in Avs’ history for games played (1,020), fourth in points (805) and goals (375) and fifth in assists (430).
Hejduk was a three-time All-Star, a Stanley Cup champion (2001), Maurice Richard Trophy winner (2002-03) and team captain (2011-12).
Here’s what Kyle Keefe, the Avs’ studio analyst, had to say about Hejduk:
“‘Hedjy,’ as they called him, had the best hands I’d ever seen. Silky smooth. I’m talking about a guy who won the Maurice ‘Rocket’ Richard Trophy. He was a gamer – and a class act, quite possibly the nicest player I’ve ever met.”
But while I’m sure this means a lot to Hejduk, I can only imagine that it pales in comparison to him being named the fourth-greatest Avalanche player in franchise history by Mile High Sports Magazine.
Congrats, Hedjy!
