Mohamed Kamara is currently writing himself into Colorado State football’s record book.
While CSU’s defense has been pulling the Rams down this year, Kamara still stands out as one of the best defenders in the Mountain West Conference.
The Rams gave up an appalling 639 yards of offense to the Utah State Aggies on Saturday night, losing 44-24, but Kamara still racked up three sacks before being injured. Luckily, head coach Jay Norvell said he hopes to have the dynamic defensive end back for this weeks Homecoming game against Boise State per Kevin Lytle.
Mohamed Kamara leads the nation in sacks
Before last week’s game, Kamara led the nation in sacks per game, and he was second overall with 6.5 sacks behind Utah’s Jonah Elliss (7.5).
Now, Colorado State’s star defender leads all of college football with 9.5 sacks on the year.

As you can see, he has an explosive get-off when the opponent snaps the ball. Kamara flies upfield and around two would-be blockers to sack Cooper Legas of Utah State.
His three sacks pushed him to 27 all-time at Colorado State, which is third-most, passing Mike Bell. Clark Haggans’ 33.0 sacks are most all-time for the Rams, meaning Kamara could get there this year.
He also now has 39.5 tackles for a loss in his career, moving him into sixth at Colorado State. With three more TFLs, he’ll move into third behind Haggans and Bell.
Finally, in terms of single-season CSU records, Brady Smith’s 1995 season holds the mark with 16.0 sacks. With seven games to play, Kamara just needs one per game to set a new record for the season and career sacks. He’s been averaging 2.1 per game this year.
Midseason Mountain West Player of the Year
Kamara isn’t just getting noticed by Colorado State fans, but he’s getting love nationally, too.
College Football Network named him their Midseason Mountain West Player of the Year:

Not only was he named POY, but Defensive POY, Defensive Line POY, and MW First-Team, too.
There was lots of love for CSU by College Football Network, as you can see in the tweet that Dallin Holker was named Newcomer of the Year at this midseason mark.
Both Holker and wide receiver Tory Horton each earned top marks for their positions, and each landed on the MW First-Team for the publication, too.
All three of those stars were talked about heavily before the season started, and now each of them are showing out. The three seniors are playing so well, all of them have a great shot at playing on Sundays in the near future for NFL teams.
Horton is currently 10th in yards (560) among all wide receivers in the country. He also returned a punt for a touchdown last week, the second of his career.
Holker is second among tight ends in total yards (414) and first in touchdowns (5).
This week, the Rams and their trio of stars look to bounce back from a tough loss against the Boise State Broncos (3-3). The game kicks off at 7:45 p.m. MT at Canvas Stadium and will be broadcasted on FS1.
