A number of Denver Broncos players chose not to participate in the first day of the final week of voluntary OTAs Monday morning, Nicki Jhabvala reported from Dove Valley.
Von Miller, Demaryius Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders and Shane Ray are among the players who were absent from the voluntary workout session. Head coach Vance Joseph said that Ray missed the workouts due to a sore left wrist, the same one he injured last year. The Broncos are in the final week of their three-week voluntary workout program.
The final day of voluntary workouts will be Thursday, after which the team is given four days off before beginning mandatory minicamp from June 12-14. Veterans have reported and participated in the voluntary OTAs throughout the three phases of the program, so Monday’s absence could just be viewed as a rest day.
Through the first two portions of the program, some players have commented on the effectiveness of the offseason program. As Denver’s unquestioned starter at quarterback, Case Keenum said that he has created a connection with Thomas and others during the sessions. Keenum will also be hosting the receivers in Houston this offseason to continue that familiarization.
