Although he is not a conventional NFL insider, recently retired wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. broke some news on Wednesday: defensive end Elvis Dumervil has been released from the Baltimore Ravens.

Dumervil has played four seasons with the Ravens; but prior to his experience in Baltimore, the veteran was a member of the Denver Broncos. Originally drafted in the fourth round in 2006, Dumervil found success in his six seasons with Denver.

Yet, his time was cut short in Denver due to a mishap with his contract. Dumervil used a fax machine to send his signed contract to the Broncos, but the fax arrived six minutes past the deadline. The Broncos, who did not have the contract in hand, told the league that they would be cutting Dumervil, in order to dodge a $13 million-plus cap charge for the 2013 season. The misunderstanding led to the end of Dumervil’s career in Mile High, and resulted in him migrating east to play for the Ravens, until now.

The free agent played in eight games for the 2016 season where totaled 11 tackles, three sacks and two forced fumbles.
