The Denver Broncos selected Bradley Roby out of Ohio State with the No. 31 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. Since then, has played in all 16 games in each of his four seasons in Denver. In 2017, the 26-year old made 35 tackles, defended 17 passes, forced one fumble and picked off one pass.
Roby will be competing with Tramaine Brock for the No. 2 cornerback position on the depth chart all training camp long, and it will be one of the most interesting battles to watch.
Speaking to Shawn Drotar and Doug Ottewill of Mile High Sports AM 1340 | FM 104.7, Nick Ferguson says that whatever happens with Roby will be a significant moment for John Elway and the Broncos front office.
“There’s a lot of opportunities for Bradley Roby to make John Elway and their front office staff right in their decision,” said Ferguson. “If it doesn’t, now it makes them look bad going into 2019. Therefore, going into the draft looking to possibly find a replacement for Bradley Roby.”
Roby failing to secure the second string cornerback job on the depth chart would certainly go down as another miss in the draft for Elway.
“In this situation,” Ferguson continued on the front office. “You best believe the nod is going to go to Bradley for the obvious reasons. You’ve got to make your decision look like a great decision.”
Training camp for the Broncos, like for every team, is going to be an important time to try and solidify their depth chart. There are going to be a lot of battles for depth chart positioning at Dove Valley starting next week, and one of the biggest is at the No. 2 cornerback spot.
“There’s a lot of inner battles at positions that should shake themselves out in training camp,” said Ferguson. “But you never want to be in the situation where the team is not giving you a chance to overtake the guy who’s been there before you. You want to have a chance to go in and compete.”
The better that Roby is, the stronger the “No Fly Zone” gets, and Roby has all the tools to make a major impact for the Broncos in 2018 and beyond.
