Niko Medved was introduced as the Rams’ head basketball coach on Friday in what amounted to a homecoming for the 2017 Southern Conference coach of the year.
“It’s been a great day so far, obviously a lot going on, it feels really neat to be back here at Fort Collins,” Medved told Kent Erickson and guest David Ramsey on the Joe Williams Show on Mile High Sports AM 1340 | FM 104.7.
Medved returns to Colorado State, where he once was an assistant coach at Colorado State under Tim Miles from 2007 to 2013 and helped guide the Rams to four straight postseason appearances, including back-to-back trips to the 2012 and 2013 NCAA Tournaments.
Medved leaves Drake after only a year, finishing 17-17 in 2017.
“It’s just so cool to be back. Walking into Moby [Arena] for the first time today since I left,” Medved said. “There’s so many memories for me here personally, and professionally, so I’m just thrilled to be back.”
Jumping into the community and making the people around him feel welcome will be a high priority for Medved, who says he needs the university and people to help build a great program.
“They’re going to feel welcome. They’re going to feel part of their program. You need your community, you need your university, these people to feel welcome and get behind the program. That’s how you build a great program — working collaboratively.”
